03.01.2022 – Today, I worked on construction details for Folly Beach City Hall. It is an existing building, so the details of showing how the new materials attach to the existing are very critical for the success of the project. We are replacing the existing old shingles with new architectural shingle roofing as well as replacing the existing louvers with EIFS panels. To assist with explaining these changes, I drafted a valley flashing detail, eave and gutter detail, plinth detail, sill detail, jamb detail, head detail, and a roof at vertical wall detail. All of these details will ensure that the new installation will be water tight and efficiently installed per the existing building.

Reflecting on this week, I was introduced more to OSHA and how they operate concerning approval of public spaces. Folly Beach City Hall is an existing building that has been recently renovated. One issue that arose with the renovation was that the parapet height did not meet the required standards. Knowing this, they decided to put any mechanical equipment ten feet away from the parapet to prevent from having to raise the height to meet OSHA standards. OSHA is still not happy and this will be further discussed at the next design meeting.
