RECORDS OF WORK

Holiday Inn Charleston (project planning & design)

  • Project Location: Charleston, SC
  • Brief Description: The firm recently secured a hospitality project in Charleston, SC. The hotel will be renovated and the building’s exterior will be reskinned using more contemporary materials and systems. The project is currently in the conceptual design phase.
  • Project Scope: Manage the project in BIM. Update site plans. Model walls in Revit.
  • Project Manager: Thomas Jasper
  • Role of the Student: Update site plans (existing and proposed). Meet with my mentor. Create floor plans. Model walls in Revit.
  • Experience:
    • For this week, I was tasked with updating the site plans (existing and proposed) based on the redlines that was given to me by my mentor. I needed to get these plans updated since the client meeting was at the end of the week. The majority of the redlines were just refining the plans to ensure the design intent was clear. After the client meeting, I worked on the floor plans and modeled the walls using the existing framing plans. I also continued to manage the project in BIM, ensuring the project file is organized since I was assigned the BIM lead for this renovation project. Next week, I will be working on programming the building and adding room color schemes. Overall, I am excited to take on this renovation project since I have yet to work on this kind of project. Additionally, I am gaining a different perspective with working in Revit.

Firm Culture (project management)

  • Description: Meet with urban planners from the Atlanta office.
  • Experience: Due to my interest in gaining experience in multiple aspects of design (i.e., urban planning), I had the opportunity to meet with urban planners from the Atlanta office to discuss opportunities for collaboration and job shadowing. It was a privilege to connect with other design professionals. I enjoyed our conversation and appreciated learning about their work.
