WEEKLY REFLECTION

Project: Rocking Chair Car Wash

Project Phase: Permitting

Project Manager: Luke Jarrett

Student’s Role: Permit set revisions

Although it is a little late in the process, the client recently received some feedback from the general contractor after the project underwent some value engineering in an attempt to try and reduce the overall cost of the project. Sending over the meeting minute notes from their discussion we were asked to make some revisions to the model in order for the changes to be reflected in the project set. From this project I have learned that although value engineering can be applied at any stage of a project, even during construction, it is often better if it is implemented earlier on in the process, closer to the project inception, where the benefits are greatest and there is a higher success rate.

With my internship coming to an end, it’s amazing looking back and seeing where I started and how far I’ve come working at Synchronicity for the past year. The knowledge I’ve gained and lessons I’ve learned from working in such a unique firm and setting and about practice in general have proven to be invaluable.
