This first week was involved a lot of getting familiar with things around the office and kind of how things run in the firm on a day-to-day basis. Cummings & McCrady does a good amount of historical preservation, so one of the first things I got familiar with were their Historical Conditions Assessment Documents. I have actually learned a lot about what different types of professionals involved in projects look for in terms of a beautiful and lasting structure. Lots of new terms for sure. Right now we are just waiting on a couple more firms to give their feedback about the assessment so I can place that information into the InDesign document for College of Charleston. The COC is potentially doing renovations on 107 Wentworth Street which used to be fraternity housing. The last set of renovations was in 2005, but to be honest the building is in pretty rough shape right now, aesthetically and structurally.

The second major thing I have been working on is the Charleston Baptist Church Renovations. The Church wants to learn about different options they have for temporary meeting spaces in their existing Gymnasium space. They would like spaces for group meetings as well as the option to divide the gym in half to have their youth group activities in. I have been providing them options for movable partitions and gym dividers to show them how they can optimize the space they have currently for all of their various activities. Right now we are waiting for feedback from the client on what exactly they want their space to be used for so we can better design to fit their needs. This has been an interesting and informative process so far because their As-built drawings that they provided are not anywhere near what the building actually looks like today, so I have had to refer to field pictures a lot to verify the accuracy of the drawings at the same time.
