Reflection

  • This week I learned that there are many factors that can dictate how we design. In the case of the reflected ceiling plan, it is important to consider how much light is desired within a given space, the type of fixtures used, where should these lights be positioned, what material should the ceiling be, and what is an appropriate ceiling height for each programed area. While working on the life safety plan I learned that if an existing building is not sprinkled, but has to be sprinkled, and the owner does not have the budget to sprinkle, then that can also affect how we design. It can mean changing wall types and materials, adjusting floor plans, or adding additional openings to the exterior.
