Reflection

  • While working on the Charleston County Coroner’s Office Renovation and Expansion with Shawn, I learned that there is so much stuff tucked inside of walls that we often aren’t aware of. At the Coroner’s Office, the walls of the MRI / X-Ray room will have to be lined with lead. This is done because lead lined walls help to shield both the staff and general public from the effects of radiation. Additionally, I learned that when designing for healthcare (or any type of space involving the operation of equipment) it is important to review the spec sheets of the equipment that the owner plans to purchase. This is important because you have to allow enough clearance for the machine to operate, the workers to move around it, and the items to get loaded into it.
