Tuesday, Jan. 28th

  • Continued working on Enlarged plans & Elevations of Hematology Project.
  • Began working on Dimension Plan, and Ceiling Plan.
  • QC meeting with Josh, Ashley, Lee Ann and myself. Discussed organization of the central cluster of rooms in the clinic and attempted to revise the exam room to be a more common configuration like the others. The curtained, semi-isolated rooms had differing widths and ultimately wasn’t working in relation to the hand washing stations, hospitality storage, and nurse’s station millwork. This brought up the discussion of trying to align the ceiling grid and the curtain mounting tracks. Changing the sizing would make uneven tiling or mean the curtain tracks would mis-align with our existing windows. Although the curtain rooms are presumed ‘temporary’ until later phasing warrants more space for permanent exam rooms, we want the solution to not look ‘temporary’ and look elegant and give the client the best organization as possible.

Reflection:

I enjoyed our Monday morning meeting where the managing principals informed the teams on their discussions from their associate’s breakfast. This began a discussion on workplace ethic, atmosphere, and perception of the company. The whole staff was invited to discuss their thoughts on meetings and the company wide survey to gain insight on how everyone is feeling about their jobs, workplace, and if they feel they are working towards their personal goals. I have a general idea of what I want as a career, what I want as an employee, and what my goals are. But, chances like these to hear what is important to my colleagues and mentors is invaluable in helping me craft a better idea on how to be a contributing member of a firm. I will eventually reach a point in my career when others will really rely on my experience and input on tough topics, like status of the firm.

Reflection:

I think this week was just average. Nothing too exciting happened and I mainly focused on picking up the red-lines of the Hematology set. I’m not unfamiliar with red-line work in my short professional career and being an intern sometimes means just putting together drawing sets so that I can build my familiarity.
