    • “The goal is to create a design that facilitates and enhances the existing uses, that is low maintenance, multi-functional and sustainable. The design should be harmonious with the existing permanent structures and exude a sense of peacefulness and calm.”
    • After interest had been expressed for a more “zen-like” space and an initial design proposed, ADA issues began to be discussed in the space. Existing bluezone pavers were multiplied through the grassy courtyard  in a spaced stepping pattern. My job was to assess the current design by looking at this paving as well as the spacing and sizing of the fixed concrete and sapele benches. Realizing that the space was not truly accessible for all to experience I was then tasked with doing a rework of the courtyard. Through this process I’ve seen the constraints of money and the potential resistance of a client when code alters their vision. This project then teaches you to be critical of the limited space you have in trying to balance softness and vision with code implementation that may reduce that.
