Weekly Reflection

This week is fall break. However, I chose to keep working in order to make up for the hours when I’m going to New Orleans for the Health Care Design Conference in two weeks. The permit set is coming along as I have been working on it for the whole week. I’ve learned a lot that architects provide more service than just doing architecture design. Site survey, code review, programming and electrical planning are also part of additional service provided to the clients. There is so much information needed to show on several sheets of drawings. The level of clarity of the drawing is very important and it reflects architects’ thoughtfulness in practice. In my opinion, there is certain reasoning behind the graphical convention of architecture drawings. For example, the numbering of drawings on the same sheet always starts from the right bottom corner and increments going up left. That’s because the drawing sets are usually big. It takes time to flip over the whole page to look for the first number. With the number starts at the right bottom corner, people only need to flip over a very small portion of the paper to know where the drawings are. It is stunning when I first heard of it, and I was amazed by how smart people are.
